Moving to Posterous

At the same time as my page at YIID broke I've decided to move my blog to Posterous completely.
http://natanael.posterous.com Edit: And now they're shutting down... My current blog: http://roamingaroundatrandom.wordpress.com/

Gonna use posterous a little more now

My subdomain at YIID have stopped working. Well, YIID closed them all. Meh^10000!!!

I'm going to use this site as my "home page" for things. Whenever I comment on news or blogs, etc, I'm going to use this. I used to use YIID for that, but as I said it's not working anymore. :/

In the middle of this, I also decided to merge my blogspot blog with this one. It might look a little weird with posts mixed up a little, but I can live with that.

And in combination with recently installing Sendy on my phone, you might also see more actual updates here. I guess it will be mostly pictures taken with my phone.

Hehehe, just read some of my old posts...

New year again, and it's March already. Time goes fast.

I've got internet at home now (3G modem). ICS + Wi-Fi router (dhcp off) for sharing = geeky. :)

I've spent some time programming. I was fiven a C++ coding book as a gift (one of ~20 books), and I've experimented with Python as well as written plenty of shell scripts (did I mention that Ubuntu is my primary OS now?).
I might just try Fedora sometime soon. I guess I'll install it when it's got a decent in-place upgrade system like Ubuntu has. I will probably have bought an extra hard drive to install it on already by then. :)

I'm on Cory Doctorow's mailing list - he recently sent an email saying that they're gonna send 200 free copies of his latest novel "For the Win" to people under 19;

"If you're under 19 and want a free early look at the book for review on
your blog/paper/whatever, send a note with your address to
torpublicity@tor.com with "FTW" for the subject-line. Also include the
name of your blog or school paper. For fun, also share a game you
enjoyed recently and why."

I thought I'd try and see if I can get a copy to review over here in Sweden. :P

Using the Posterous Bookmarklet - Posterous Help

Nice! Using the bookmarklet in Chrome is quite cool (you have to open the bookmarks manager and click-and-drag the link to add it), you can just type "share post" and the bookmarklet is in the list!

Play OGG

Copying directly from playogg.org:

---

I'm writing today to ask you to support the Play Ogg campaign (http://playogg.org).

Are you tired of constantly being prompted to download proprietary software and plugins to play the videos and listen to the music you want? Are you fed up with seeing new gadgets that only use incompatible and restrictive audio and video formats? Did you know that it's not a lack of technological know-how that causes this, but software patents and other legal restrictions?

Increasingly proprietary software companies like Microsoft, Apple and Adobe are pushing video and audio formats that restrict access and restrict software developers, but there is an alternative that can be played on all computers without restriction—Ogg.

Ogg provides professional grade multimedia formats. Ogg is used extensively by free software projects, artists and a growing number of music and video distributors.

Soon over a million children and their families will be receiving the One Laptop per Child XO computer designed to play and create Ogg files. By advocating now for Ogg we can help ensure that those children will gain access to, and not be unnecessarily restricted from thousands of educational resources and materials on the web.

Join us in advocating for Ogg right now by taking 4 Easy Steps: Install VLC multimedia player, sign-up for the PlayOgg advocate mailing list, find and share Ogg friendly sites, and put PlayOgg Buttons on your web site or blog. After all that, if you are still looking for more to do, consider encouraging others to do the same.

OGG Vorbis/Theora & free software FTW! (And NO DRM! ;)

OGG = Data container, Vorbis = Audio codec, Theora = Video codec.

What I will write about

I've decided to write about a few subjects that I think is important. I might just as well tell you the titles of them right now, so here they are:

* "I own that idea"
About copyright and patents, and being "territorial" about inventions and ideas.

* You are not the norm
About what are normal and not, how people treat others and how people react on behaviours they think is strange.

* Copyleft FTW!
My way to say thanks to all authors of free and open source software and people who support Creative Commons.

* Who are inventors?
About what inventions are and what it takes to create something brand new, inspiration, etc.

Knowing that I've promised that I will write about this are probably going to make me more eager to get it written as soon as possible as well. :D
(Edit: Hmmm, seems like that plan didn't work. I've got to start writing all these posts soon...)

I WANT COMMENTS! Please? ;-)

What should I write?

I really don't know.

To anybody that want to contact me ever, just post a comment. I check my email several times a week, and every time somebody post a comment I get an email, so the blog is not abandoned or going to be abandoned ever.

I hate not having any internet connection at home. It's just that much harder to get things done. Gaaaaah!

General geekyness

So, it's a new year. Wow. Kind of.

Well, I should probably start to learn programming for real soon. I've got to get some compilers for various languages and some programming enviroments...

Anyway, I've been doing some geeky stuff the last year as well. I've got some Twitter followers (probably not geeky, but anyway), I've managed to get a free T-shirt sent to me from the Openlina (www.openlina.org, www.openlina.com) staff as thanks for an awesome idea(!), I've managed to get some invites to even more beta applications/services and I've got some more geeky skills in general. Soon I've had my laptop an entire year (bought it in late February 2008), and I've managed to both cause and fix a couple of hundred issues on it already, and I've already installed and downloaded more than 250 apps (it could be +350).

When I've got internet at home again I'm going to get replacements for all my apps on Windows Vista for Ubuntu (I've got a dual boot system), and then I might even wipe Vista's partition and replace it forever!
Open source FTW!

So, if there are any readers at all - do you want to read about anything specific here? Feel free to comment.
